Recipes for gooey mixtures for kids.

Basic Gack
  • 2 Cups Elmers Glue
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • Food coloring, as desired
  • 1 1/2 Tbs Borax mixed in 1 cup hot water
Mix Elmers glue, 1 1/2 cups warm water and food coloring. Stir until even. Stir in Borax solution.
You have Gack!

Oobleck
  • 50 cc cornstarch (2 big Tbs)
  • 25 ml water (1 ounce)
Mix cornstarch and water together.
Remove from cup and knead. Add few drops water if oobleck too crumbly.

Glurch
  • 45 ml (3 Tbs) liquid laundry starch
  • 25 ml (5 tsp) white (Elmers) glue
  • Pinch of salt
Put starch into small plastic bowl, add salt, stir, add glue and stir. Squeeze out excess starch with fingers. Remove from bowl and knead. Add a few grains of salt if too runny.

Glurch 2
  • 20 ml (4 tsp) Elmers white glue mixed in 25 ml (5 tsp) water
  • Food coloring, as desired
  • 4% sodium borate solution (Borax in warm water) or liquid Sta-Pruf starch (the blue stuff is the only one that works)
Add food coloring to glue solution. Stir while adding either borax solution or Sta-Puff until the glurch forms. Pour off excess liquid, then dump glurch onto wax paper for a minute or two. Knead glurch to proper consistency. If too sticky, add a little borate/starch.

Flubber
  • 11/2 cups Elmers glue
  • 4 Tablespoons Borax (laundry detergent aisle)
  • 4 Cups water
Mix 2 cups water and Elmers glue in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together 2 cups water and Borax.
After it's dissolved, pour the Borax mixture a little at a time into the glue mixture and stir. You might not need all of the Borax mixture. Squish it, poke it, or try sticking a bit of it at the end of a straw and blowing a bubble. Watch it ooze through your fingers.

Vinegar takes flubber out of clothes. Mayonnaise takes it out of hair.
